1st XI Match Reports
17/4/10 - Portishead 261-7 (40) Blagdon 158-9 (40) (Friendly)
A comprehensive win by 103 runs as the first team opened their season in style. Batting first at a sunny Lake Grounds Posset lost opener Jak Phillips for just 5 but then Paul Tarr and Don McMillan put together a partnership of over 140 before Don retired for a superb 101, Paul eventually being dismissed for 59. A few quick wickets fell in the middle order but George Parsons (24no) and Greg Walters (38no) took the score well past 250. In reply Blagdon lost wickets at regular intervals to finish on 158-9 off their 40 overs. T.Moy the visitors best batsman with 68. All of the bowlers got in some useful practice with Nev Coleske picking up 3-26 and Dan Stevens 2-23.
24/4/10 - Twyford House 202 (42.2) Portishead 200-7 (45)
A close finish at the Lake Grounds saw the home side fall just 3 runs short of victory. Batting first Twyford were bowled out for 202, Ryan Jamieson top scoring with 52. Pick of the bowlers was Dave Colyer with 3-19 off 8 overs backed up by Dan Stevens (2-35), Nigel Armstrong
(2-37) and Greg Walters (2-52). In reply Posset lost 4 wickets in reaching 59, but Nigel Armstrong (43) and Chris Bridge (60no) put together a useful partnership of over 80 to get the home team back in the game. Andy Thomas scored 31 but with 5 needed for victory off the last over, Twyford's Mark Fowler bowled superbly to concede only 2 runs.
1/5/10 - Timsbury 102 (39.3) Portishead 93 (37.4)
The first team fell to an amazing defeat at the Lake Grounds having had Timsbury 22-7 after just 12 overs with Greg Walters taking 6 wickets for 10 runs. Timsbury were indebted to D.Storey (43) and S.Clothier (31) who put together a valuable 64 run partnership, enabling them to reach 102. Greg finished with 6-32, Nigel Armstrong 3-39 and Dan Stevens 1-20. In reply no home batsman got to grips with the Timsbury attack, and despite double figure scores from Nigel Armstrong (19), Chris Bridge (18) and Andy Thomas (17) were bowled out for just 93. For Timsbury the star bowler was M.Sage with 2-9 off 10 overs, I.Ettle taking 2-17 and J.Strand 2-15.
8/5/10 - Portishead 313-5 (45) Hampset 55 (16.2)
The first team bounced back from last weeks disappointing loss with a thumping 258 run win over visitors Hampset. Posset batted first and after the early loss of George Parsons, Ollie Savory and Mike Franklin then put on 90 for the second wicket before Ollie was dismissed for 66. Mike was then joined by Nigel Armstrong and the pair put on 160 for the 3rd wicket, Mike eventually being dismissed for a superb 126 with Nigel contributing 81. In reply Hampset were blown away by the opening attack of Greg Walters (6-39) and Dan Stevens (3-13) to be all out in the 17th over.
15/5/10 - Failand and Portbury 224 (44.1) Portishead 228-7 (43)
A third consecutive League win for the 1st team over local rivals F&P. The home side batted first and reached 200-5 with 5 overs remaining thanks to 86 from A.McArthur, but the return of Dan Stevens and Greg Walters saw the last 5 wickets fall in quick succession as they tumbled to 224 all out. Dan finished with 5-41 and Greg 2-61. In reply Possett were struggling at 200-7 with 3 overs remaining despite 50 from Nigel Armstrong. Dan Stevens then ended a fine match by blasting 24 from the 43rd over bowled by Sid Mistry to power the visitors to victory.
22/5/10 - Almondsbury 138 (29.4) Portishead 139-3 (21.1)
The first team enjoyed an easy 7 wicket victory at a sunny Lake Grounds. Batting first the visitors were bowled out by Dan Stevens and Greg Walters who took all 10 wickets between them. Dan finished with 6-60 and Greg 4-55. For the visitors only L.Hartigan with 71 made any sort of score. In reply Possett lost the early wickets of Paul Tarr and Mike Franklin for 8 apiece but Ollie Savory hammered a rapid 69 with 14 4's before being dismissed with score at 95. Nigel Armstrong (33no) and Chris Bridge (10no) then coasted to victory.
29/5/10 - Bristol Asians 274-6 (45) Portishead 200 (41.5)
Top of the league Asians visited the Lake Grounds and came away winners by 74 runs after an amazing innings by number 4 batsman Aslan. With Possett on top at 50-3, Aslan blazed his way to 142 to transform the match. Shahzad added 50 as a formidable total was reached. In reply George Parsons scored a fine 63, Mike Franklin 34, Greg Walters 23 and skipper Dave Colyer 28 but the firsts came up well short.
5/6/10 - Phoenix West Indians 145 (32.2) Portishead 146-5 (35.1)
The firsts recovered from last weeks setback to win by 5 wickets at Phoenix. The home side batted first and were bowled out in the 33rd over. Chief wicket takers were Greg Walters (5-54) and Don McMillan (4-50) with Dan Stevens picking up the last wicket. In reply opening bowler N.Luke picked up the first three wickets to leave Possett at 44-3. Paul Tarr (38) and Chris Bridge (15) added 44 for the 4th wicket and Paul was dismissed with score at 109. Mark Pullen (20no) and Andy Thomas (11no) then guided the team home with 9 overs to spare.
12/6/10 - Portishead 125 (41.5) Bristol Pakistanis 126-2
The firsts were bowled out for a meagre 125 at the Lake Grounds with only Chris Bridge (43no) showing any resistance. In reply opener Shakeel with 71no ensured an easy win for the Pakistanis.
19/6/10 - Portishead 164-9 (45) Chew Magna 151 (40.1)
A good away win for the first team by the margin of 13 runs away at Chew Magna. Batting first Garth Tiley topped score with 31 with good contributions from George Parsons, Nigel Armstrong and Dave Colyer with 18 apiece. In reply Chew were soon in trouble as Greg Walters and Dan Stevens reduced the home side to 25-4. The middle order rallied but Dave Colyer nipped in to take 3 wickets late on to finish with 3-26. Greg and Dan both finished with 3-42 off their 15 overs with Don McMillan picking up the other wicket.
