1st XI Match Reports

26/6/10 - Pak Bristolians 164 (44.1) Portishead 166-2 (26.4)

The first team cruised to an impressive 8 wicket win at the Lake Grounds. Batting first the visitors reached 164 before being bowled out in the final over with Dave Colyer the pick of the bowlers with 6-35 and Greg Walters taking 4-64. In reply Garth Tiley and Ollie Savory smashed the ball to all parts of the ground putting on 102 in just 14 overs before Garth was out for 53. Ollie followed for 66 with the score at 137 but there were no further alarms as Don McMillan (28no) and Nigel Armstrong (11no) eased to victory with more than 18 overs to spare.

3/7/10 - Timsbury 242-6 (45) Portishead 211 (38.5)

The first team slipped to a 31 run defeat at Timsbury. Batting first openers Sage (123) and Carter (67) put on 137 for the first wicket as a final total of 242 was reached. For Portishead Dave Colyer picked up 4-69 and Greg Walters 2-69. In reply Stewart Symes (56), Don McMillan (47), Paul Tarr (34) and Andy Thomas (27) all made valuable contributions but it was not enough as Possett were bowled out with 6 overs remaining.

10/7/10 - Portishead 104 (25.1) Hampset 106-5 (23.1)

A second succesive defeat for the first team losing by 5 wickets at Hampset. Batting first Portishead struggled to 104 with only Don McMillan getting past 20. M.Sellars was the chief destroyer taking 7-22 for the home side. Hampset cruised to victory in the 24th over. Greg Walters taking 2 wickets and one apiece for Dan Stevens and Dave Colyer.

17/7/10 - Portishead 261-5 (45) Failand & Portbury 146 (43.2)

Another win over the local rivals from Failand moved Posset in to third place in the League. The firsts had struggled to 163-4 after 38 overs with Don McMillan (45) and Ollie Savory (26). Nigel Armstrong (116no) then blitzed the F&P attack as 98 runs were added in 7 overs as a formidable total was reached, Paul Tarr chipping in with 24. In reply Failand made a steady start through McArthur (47) and Bell (23) but once the former was run out wickets started to fall regularly. Don McMillan picked up 3-23 from 11 tight overs, Dan Stevens (1-32), Dave Colyer (2-33) and Greg Walters (2-48).

24/7/10 - Almondsbury 116 (35.5) Portishead 117-2 (26.2)

The first team moved up to second place in the League following this 8 wicket demolition of Almondsbury. Batting first the home team were soon in deep trouble as Greg Walters picked up 4 quick wickets with only A.Parkinson (50) showing any resistance. Greg finished with 4-35, Don McMillan picked up three wickets to finish with 3-11 and Nigel Armstrong took 2-15. Ollie Savory was dismissed early on but then George Parsons (41no) and Don McMillan (37) took Posset to the brink of victory. Nigel Armstrong finishishing with 5 not out as the target was achieved with 18 overs to spare.
