2nd XI Match Reports

Portishead 198-5 (40) Frenchay 133 (31.4)

A good start to the season for the seconds with a 65 run win at Frenchay. Batting first Portishead's George Parsons scored a superb 96, and with good contributions from John Gould (25), Nev Coleske (23), Martin Sills (18) and Stewart Symes (18no) a competetive total of just under 200 was reached. Frenchay lost four early wickets in reaching 42 and despite 46no from B.Pine and 24 from M.Ferguson were never really in the hunt. Skipper Nev Coleske took 4-18, Joe Rowsell 3-9, John Gould 2-23 and R.Ireland 1-19.

1/5/10 - Cleeve 164-9 (45) Portishead 168-1 (23)

A winning start to the League season for the seconds by 9 wickets away at Cleeve. For the home side opener I.Wiesneski scored 44 and C.Lewin (40) but despite 5 dropped catches they were restricted to 164. Skipper Nev Coleske took 3-34 as well as three catches, Rob Chick 2-41 and there was a wicket apiece for Nick Walker, Sam Charman and Ollie Savory. Portisheads reply was given a spectular start by Ollie who smashed a rapid 56 in the first 12 overs with six fours and two sixes. Martin Sills (55no) and Stewart Symes (44no) then cantered to victory in the 23rd over with an unbeaten 82 run partnership.

The opposition called off the game due to an unfit pitch!

15/5/10 - Portishead 226 (38.3) Bedminster 140 (43)

A comfortable win for the 2nd's by 86 runs at the Lake Grounds. Batting first they reached 226 before being bowled out in the 39th over. Joe Rowsell (62) and Stewart Symes (55) recorded half centuries with Rob Chick scoring 31. In reply Bedminster struggled to 140, Rob Chick picking up 5-33, with Rusty Walker and Nev Coleske claiming 2 wickets apiece.

22/5/10 - Portishead 166 (41) St. Mary Redcliffe 167-9 (45)

The seconds lost a tense match at Redcliffe by 1 wicket off the last ball of the match. Batting first Possett were struggling at 31-5 before Rich Ireland (59) and Si Kelly (37) put together a 58 run partnership. Jake Bull (25) and Phil Thoburn (10) got into double figures to get the score up to 166. In reply Redcliffe lost wickets at regular intervals but were kept in the game by top score extras (50) which included 35 wides. Jones hitting the winning single of Rusty Walkers last ball.

29/5/10 - Portishead 51-0 (13) v Stothert and Pitt

After making the long trek to Bath and getting off to a solid start thanks to Nev Coleske (30) and Martin Sills (14), the dark clouds rolled in and a deluge ended the match. Amazingly just 3 miles away it was bone dry!!

5/6/10 - Portishead 235-4 (45) Phoenix West Indians 209-8 (45)

The seconds eased to a 26 run win at the Lake Grounds on Saturday. Batting first opener Martin Sills carried his bat throughout the innings finishing on 85no. Rich Ireland scored 55 and nev Coleske (38) as a competetive total was reached. In reply Phoenix were never up with the rate and finished well short. All of the four bowlers used picked up wickets with Sam Charman the most succesful with 3-44, Rusty Walker 2-22, Rob Chick 2-61 and Nev Coleske 1-57.

12/6/10 - Stapleton 84 (33.3) Portishead 86-5 (28)

Away to Stapleton the seconds gained a 5 wicket win. The home side were skittled out for 84 with just two of their players acheiving double figures. Sam Charman the pick of the bowlers with 3-9 to clean up the tail with Nev Coleske taking 3-34, Nick Walker (2-16) and Joe Rowsell (2-16). In reply three early wickets went down but Martin Sills (19) and Nev Coleske (21) steadied the innings with Phil Thoburn (12no) finishing things off.

19/6/10 - Portishead 261-3 (45) Coalpit Heath 136-8 (45)

Batting first at a sunny Lake Grounds the seconds scored at nearly 5.5 an over with Martin Sills (96) and Stewart Symes (81) putting on 150 for the first wicket. Nev Coleske (37) and Rich Ireland (20) added useful runs with Martin being dismissed 2 balls from the end of the innings looking for his ton. In reply "Heath" were never in contention as they limped along at barely 3 an over to finish 125 runs short. Two wickets apiece for Rob Chick, Nev Coleske and Toby Francis with Rusty Walker and Phil Thoburn picking up the other two victims.

26/6/10 - Portishead 251-6 (45) Bradley Stoke 178 (39.2)

A fourth succesive League win for the seconds by 73 runs at Bradley Stoke. Martin Sills (63) continued his fine batting form with another half century, and with Rich Ireland making 68, Nev Coleske (47) and Rob Chick (25no) a total of over 250 was posted. Rusty Walker picked up 2 quick wickets and Rob Chick kept the batsmen in check with a very tidy 15 over spell conceding just 35 runs plus a wicket. Nev Coleske picked up 5-77 and Ben Stevenson got two late wickets as the home team were bowled out in the 40th over.
